Our Vancouver, British Columbia, based client came to us with a brilliant challenge: transform a diffident, 1980’s era, office building into an engaging workplace – and use a light touch.

When it was designed in 1979, 1515 Dexter was a perfect example of the car-centered ‘future’ of office building planning.  A generic box, sited at the center of an open parking lot that also served as its de facto lobby.  The main floor of the building was even elevated a story above the parking lot, creating a giant porte-cochere that led to an ungenerous elevator lobby.

But the building had good bones, a well-proportioned volume, and wonderful siting- lifted above an asphalt landscape with a wonderfully difficult pitch.  Altogether, 1515 Dexter held the potential for a new and beguiling presence.

We repositioned the building by giving its unique qualities new confidence.
