David Cutler
Founding Partner, AIADavid’s work ranges in scale from single buildings to cities, engaging with public-private partnerships, interjurisdictional regulatory frameworks, interdisciplinary teams, and communities to create places that are equitable, holistically planned, and cherished.
His collaborative projects have received numerous awards, including the 2006 National AIA Award for Regional and Urban Design, the 2010 California APA Planning Award, the 2012 CNU Charter Award, and grants in funding from the US federal government and private philanthropy.
Outside of the office, David is a tireless advocate for urban policies that create healthier relationships between people and place. He is a former Chair of the Seattle Planning Commission (2009-2014), former Co-Chair of the Seattle Light Rail Review Panel (2010-2014), and a founding board member of the Seattle 2030 District.
Alongside professional practice, David has taught at the Washington State University School of Design and Construction (2016) and served as a guest critic at the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture (2013) and the University of Washington College of Built Environments (2010-2021). He has spoken at numerous academic and professional design conferences across the US, including at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (2004), the Congress for New Urbanism (2008), the International Living Future Institute (2010, 2011, 2013, and 2015), Washington APA and WASLA Chapters (2014), and Adaptive Path’s “UX Week” (2014), the tech industry’s premier user experience conference.
