Finding the right fit for housing within a changing zoning framework, increasing density while maintaining the scale of a livable neighborhood.

Location    Seattle, WashingtonClientPrivateProjectHousing, Capacity Study

This project examines the best fit for low-rise housing on a typical West Seattle lot. It works within a changing zoning framework to test multiple paths—rowhouses, townhomes, and apartments—each increasing density while staying close to the scale of the neighborhood.

The approach is direct. Wood-frame buildings with walk-up access are organized about central courtyards or common spaces. Each scheme balances unit count, livability, and cost, pairing primary units with accessory dwellings to extend capacity and flexibility over time.

The work is not about a single form. It is about a way of building towards living in close quarters—compact, repeatable, and grounded in the realities of zoning, construction, and use. The project tests how far a standard lot can go, and how housing models can adapt as zoning changes.
